Postcard from Alison Staite

What a thrill to recieve this, my first card, a beautiful and very delicate watercolour sketch by Alison in London! It came with a handwritten note with information about where it was painted (Kew Gardens), the atmosphere of the day and her thoughts on the process. I'm afraid my scan hasn't done justice to all the greens and how subtly they all blend into each other.

Coincidentally, I was over in England a few days after I received it. I was admiring the English countryside as it whizzed past the coach window lamenting the fact that I had no time to sketch it when I realised that Alison had captured the atmosphere of it perfectly! Thank you Alison!

Alison it's lovely - it catches the silhouettes and subtle colours of the frosted trees in the snow we had and the warmth of the dried foliage plays against the cool colours really well.

Thanks Vivien!
It was one of those extraordinarily drab days we often get in England in the winter. Gray, gray and more gray, until i spotted the willows and bull rushes fringing the lake. A welcome bit of colour!

This is lovely Alison. I think winter colours can be very attractive - as you have demonstrated.

I love the texture and finesse you got into the bull rushes bottom right.

Love this soft English landscape Alison, and the feeling of space with distant trees and close up bullrushes.

I like the colours used and the way you've caught the trees in the background. And the lovely watery water.

Lovely Alison, I think you have captured the cold with the color of the sky and water. The rushes in the foreground are perfect and the use of the juicy color here and there just makes your postcard really special.

Wonderfully evocative -- the last of the cold yielding to the first tantalizing signs of spring.
