2010 Whistler Olympic Monument

Charlene Brown
Watercolor on Paper

Charlene has been climbing every mountain and visiting every country and reporting about it for all to enjoy through her many blogs.  Go and visit and you will be thrilled as was I the first time I found her wonderful art and words over a year ago.  Her web site “1150 Words” @ http://charlenebrownpainting.blogspot.com/is a real treat.  However not as big a treat as receiving one of her pieces of art in the mail…..just for me……all mine……but I am sharing the image with you all now.  The computer screen with its back lighting does make it beautiful but not as nice as holding it in my hand.  I used a flash to show off the touches of gold added to enhance the monument.

Its very hard to paint a scene with one strong element - trying to create overall balance but I think Charlene has done it here. This viewpoint is so attractive as is the fresh use of watercolour - and what lovely colours.

What a meditation this beautiful card is, one feels instantly calm just looking at it. Not sure where the monument is, but obviously worth the climb. Lovely.

I love that touch of gold against the blues of the sky. It is a very serene image of what looks like a special spiritual place.

very calming and the sky, the intense blue, the colour of Buddhist prayer flags, sort of adds to that meditative feeling

This is one of the ‘guardian’ inukshuks built for the 2010 Olympics -- and is actually a precipitous climb down from the top of the highest cable lift on Mt. Whistler. (The original inukshuks indicate safe passage in the high Arctic).
Should you be wondering, the formation in the distance, Black Tusk, is the core of an extinct volcano.

Such a wonderful scene and it makes for a very atmospheric card Charlene. when I look at it, I see altitude, isolation, wind, cold, endurance and that rush of adrenaline to keep you going! Beautiful!

Ronell couldn't have put it better! It really does bring a rush of memories - Being at altitude, glaring white snow, ice wind blowing off the glaciers and startling blue sky. Love it!
