Trees by the Tate - Greetings from London

During the lunch break I heard a rattling at letter box and I was delighted to find this beautiful postcard from London inside. Katherine Tyrrell had taken the time and effort to sketch some trees at the famous Tate Gallery, London and had posted them to me.

The drawing is in coloured liner pen and coloured pencils I think, on a buff white strong card in a slightly panoramic view (1:2). I like the way how people are arranged in different scale from foreground to the background and it is nice to follow them through the picture. To me it seems like a film still and immediately I began to wonder what the story could be about.

Thank you very much Katherine for this unique piece of mail art.

I love how Katherine has included some architectural London features in the background and the way she has depicted those lovely trees.I wonder if that's Katherine herself sitting on the bench sketching? A card to ponder and enjoy.

Oh Katherine, I love the depth and the way you captured the people in the scene! It draws you in, wanting to know what they are talking about, where they are going. I love the way it leads my eye around the painting, beautiful!

Please may I have one of these?!

I was tickled to spot the sketcher but I see Bridget did too. Katherine's combination of pen and coloured pencil is so distinctive and unique to the artist. The combination is beautiful and the composition wonderful.

Lucky Martin!

Thanks for all the lovely comments.

I was actually trying to draw Martin sketching! It's the classic place to sit to draw St Paul's Cathedral from across the river
