A cold, but sunny afternoon-postcard from Cathy to Ronelle

...a bright splash of colour...camelia..

Our postman complains all the time. First it is about the mailbox not being the standard size. We have an old vintage one from 1930.
Then he complains because the rules say it should be locked. I don't care much for keys.
His biggest complain is probably about the narrow road in which he can't make a U-turn, he has to pull back up all the way uphill in reverse.
So when the postman visits and I'm outside, he recites his whole poem of complaints while handing me the mail. I am then depressed for the whole of the day, because I don't want him to be unhappy, but I also don't want to give in to all his boring demands.

But, according to Hartman who received the card when I was in Provence, on delivering Cathy's card the postman didn't complain a single word, instead, he patati patata'd the whole time about the "jolie envelope"! What a delight for both of us...me and my postman!

...une jolie envelope...!

...A sunny wintry afternoon at Emmarentia dam in South Africa...
watercolor and pen on watercolor paper, 25,5x18cm

..and some detail ...

Thank you for a special card Cathy, with all its snippets of typical South African delicacies...rooibos tea from Eleven o'clock....Jungle oats....and redro fishpaste - how I hated that as a child, well, I probably still do, but now I love the memory of that hate!!

The limited 'fall' palette you've selected for the Emmarentia dam picture is just exactly right! It's a beautiful little painting.

Lovely post card , and how good that it was delivered while you were gone, since I think this mailman is one who likes to dump his frustrations on the nearest woman in view. He wouldn't dare do it to your husband.

Oh I just love this one, so perfectly captured and painted! What a wonderful card to return home too. Maybe the postman will enjoy delivering your mail now, hoping for more like this one. This is one of my favorites, both sides.

How beautiful those warm colors and light are, they even cheer up a badly tempered postman :).

What an envelope full of gorgeous treats! The flower leaps out at me because I've not had luck with camellias here, the latest one is looking promising and I so miss the huge tree behind the house in Sydney. Absolutely delightful card, Cathy.

I loved a certain sort of pink fish paste called Pecks Anchovette when I was little, I'd like some now! Tried a local fresh variety in Provence but decided it was an acquired taste - so salty - and unfortunately I couldn't stay long enough to enjoy to acquire the taste.

Cathy has done it again - she's made a beautiful study of people enjoying themselves and created a great atmosphere with her colours.

This card is wonderful and Cathy has taken the time and energy to produce this masterpiece. It’s just lovely and such a treat to receive something so beautiful.

Ronell you are so wonderful to produce such a terrific post for Cathy's postcard. You have given me almost the experience of holding it my hand. Almost!
