A card from Albrecht in Majorca

A postcard from Albrecht in Majorca

This lovely free sketch arrived from Albrecht, teaching a course in Majorca.  It's of one of his favourite places.

Isn't it great?  Such lovely free scribbly marks that evoke the vegetation and scene so well :>)

Thank you Albrecht :>)

Spring poppies.

Each time I see a flower, I think it is my favorite. And so again it was the case when Alison's radiant poppy showed up in my mail box. My favorite flower.

For someone who doesn't often paint with reds and oranges, she did extremely well in capturing the voluptuousness of the poppy.

Thank you Alison, I love my red spring poppy.

Beauty is a Pot Belly PIg

I've always wanted a Pot Belly Pig, so can you imagine my delight when this month's postcard arrived from Bridget...
Pencil, Gouache & Coloured Pencil - Bridget Hunter
Click on image for the big picture.

I've only seen black pot belly pigs before but this one would do Monet proud.  Bridget creates magic with her palette.

This little pig, she says, lives with her friends at Dean Castle Park in Kilmanock.  She (the pig) was a very good model, standing relatively still, snuffling in the mud, while an amorous boar was snuffling ..... well, use your imagination.

This sketch is particularly treasured having come right out of Bridget's sketchbook.  I was pretty pleased with the stamp too!

Thank you Bridget.  I'll treasure my pot belly pig.

A Hare and a Robin, from Robyn

I had just commented how surprised I was that the first postcard of the new round had arrived already on Desiree's post below, when I wandered outside and found that mine had too. I literally took in a breath when I picked it up and saw the exquisite watercolour of the hare - the scan again not doing it justice. Beautiful soft, subtle tones, the most delicate detail in the eye and whiskers - and on the other side the sweetest, bright-eyed little robin. I want to frame the hare painting, but don't want to lose the little bird...
Thanks so much Robyn, I'm so happy to have this truly beautiful postcard!

I get to post first, a card from Pat!

Pat sent me this beautiful, large postcard of what seems to be matilla poppies, one of my favorites. As you all know I love, love poppies so this was so perfect for me.  I love her layers of color that help pop the flowers off the card. She says she is on her third day of walking again. Go get them Pat! I have wonderful photos of her painting at my house during the garden tour, she is truly a talent and a wonderful sweet spirit. Thank you Pat for my beautiful postcard! We definitely need to get together soon!

Keep on Walking!

Don't know about you, but we've been missing those exciting rectangles of card and illustrated envelopes arriving every month in our postboxes - so some Sketchercisers have decided to carry on into a second round of international postcard-from-my-walk sending and receiving. Sadly not everyone feels able to commit to another year of producing and sending sketches, so it's a slightly shorter list of participants, but the rest of us have got back into the familiar panicky 'It's the end of the month and I haven't done my Postcard' mode and are ready, or not, to send off the first one during the next week or two. Some of us have decided to stick to a theme to draw, and some have specified a preference for sketches they'd like to receive, so stay tuned and see if you can work out any themes emerging as we continue our exchange. (Just to keep it interesting, some don't mind either way!)
