A Vineyard in Watercolour

Albrecht is busy working on a commission to design various wine labels for a traditional winemaker family. I think the enviable side of this work is having to visit their vineyards and I wonder if tasting the wines is a necessary part of his project!! He describes this particular vineyard as "orbiting an old castle of that family west of the Black Forest overlooking the wide Rhine valley with a fantastic view of the Cathedral of Strasbourg and the Vosges Mountains in France."

I've never been to this part of Europe so find it very interesting to view it through Albrecht's eyes.

If this lovely, fresh delicate watercolour is a reflection of the area it seems to be well worth a visit. The composition and drawing on the card shows Albrecht's skills as do the beautiful subtle colours found in the shadows. Click on the image to see the cool mauves - beautiful.

And thank you too for this wonderful cat study.

I do love it when Albrecht paints in watercolour because I feel I can learn so much from him. This is so lovely I can almost taste the wine.
Enviably accomplished capture of that cat too.

I love the sweeping lines leading to the castle, that give such a (dizzying!) feeling of height and expanse. So beautiful - I'd love to get hold of some of these bottles of wine once Albrecht's labels are on them!

lovely!

I've stayed in the Vosges mountains in France and many years ago Koln - going down the Rhine and Mosel by train, exploring all the little villages - this brings it all back :>)

What a great project, designing a wine label! I think the research would be invaluable! Beautiful card and description of the area, it is like traveling without the expense! Perfect!

What a lovely delicate painting.

I really like the perspective of this view - it gives an excellent impression of just how steep those slopes are which I remember very well from my visit to the area a long time ago

I hope the winemaker family like their label as much as we do!

I am always surprised how these "little" paintings are so huge in character. It's a strong image, lovely fresh color and so descriptive of the area. Well done Albrecht.
