A Postcard from Californian Woods

I found myself singing 'Postcard Pat' to the tune of a certain well known children's TV programme as I watched and waited for this card to arrive in the letterbox and before long, there it was, a little gem of a watercolour done by Pat Reese, whose work I've followed and admired for a long time. I'm so thrilled to have this, and see close up and personal the subtle watercolour washes and delicately penned trees of the lovely Californian woods that she walks through with dear Ivy the Greyhound.

Thank you Pat! - I'll leave you with her last appropriate words and the pretty rose doodle on her postcard...

This is a delight - a complete contrast to the weather here. Delicate watercolour work - and really like the subtle colours of the shadows and the different greens in the foliage.

This fine postcard reminds me of a kinf of rule: The shadow creates the light. Not vice versa! Light in art makes it friendly and likeable. I adore light-artists: Edward Hopper, Andrew Wyeth, Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg, Jan Vermeer, Claude Monet, Joaquín Sorolla, Carl Blechen...

Pat this is delightful with, as has been said, a lovely sense of light and shade and unlike here, warmth.

The shadows bring out the hillocks and hollows in the ground beautifully and it feels happy.

That light is just brilliant Pat - in more ways than one! I'm also very fond of all the artists who focus on painting light. That's a great list by Albrecht.

This is so wonderfully warm and Californian... You've captured beautifully some of the reasons so many of us find our way down the coast at this time of year!

How did I guess this would be a card worth waiting for :) The shadow play is perfect, the trees, 'huggable' and the play of light and foliage, masterful. Can't wait for mine!
