Postcard from Katherine Tyrrell, London

I was the lucky recipient of Katherine's first post card! She had a outing with other artists to the Natural History Museum in South Kensington, London where she penned these beautiful butterflies.

Thank you Katherine for such a lovely card. My daughter, who loves butterflies asked is she could have it framed for her room, I think we might fight over who gets to keep this one! I admire all those tiny pen strokes that make up the butterflies, then it seems like you added some colored pencil to complete the masterpiece. A lovely way to start my spring season, thank you so much!!!

Katherine, thank you again so much for this lovely card. I can't tell you how excited I was to be the first to receive one of your pieces of art. I love your beautiful colored pencil pieces and I am thrilled to be able to see it up close and really examine all those tiny strokes! It is so much more exciting to be able to see art in person. That is another reason that being a part of this exchange is so exciting. Its knowing that the card was created so far away, by talented artist friends and it has traveled so far to reach me! With email and facebook now the normal means of comunication. receiving a hand painted piece of art with a note is a true gift!

Your butterflies are beautiful Katherine...I have to admit, you bluffed me with this one...I like imagining what we all might get, but I never could guess you would do butterflies!!

Partly a product of the time of year and the weather! I do like going to the Museums in South Kensington and drawing unusual objects.

What a beautiful study of butterflies. I love the way you use coloured pencils and the medium works so well allowing us to see the delicacy of the wings.

An exquiste example of a subject where a drawing can be so much more magical than a photograph.

Lovely! So airy they can almost float away.

This is a surprise and a delight. These are fresh and free representing the little critters that they are...or were. Lovely!
